Most of the fishing effort was land based and in the Lake, as the wind made it impossible to even think of launching a boat of any size let alone heading out to any reasonable depth.
Those few days last week and earlier this week saw a few guys bite the bullet and were rewarded with some very nice snapper.
Although not in any great numbers, they were quality fish.
They seemed to come in pairs as it was usually the first few drops after a location move that saw a quick couple of bang, bang bites and then nothing.
Another move and much the same result with most of this effort concentrated along the 50 metre depth line where the current was not that much of an issue, just the funny or weird bite.
Any deeper and the current took over and getting anywhere near the bottom was impossible.
Both the larger plastics and well-presented pillies or squid seemed to be equal running in the success stakes.
Flathead were very much still about in good numbers but only between wind gusts that abated long enough to get a bait or jig down.
Some crews reported the current varied from just a 100 metre move.
Rocks have been steadily getting better fishing over the past week with plenty of drummer and bream about the stones.
A steady burley trail was a must to get them interested and to keep them on the bite.
There have been some massive schools of salmon and tailor in casting distance of many rocky outcrops.
Mixed in amongst them have been some big kings and also some solid bonito as well.
The same schools of salmon and tailor have been on beach patrol and cruising up and down just behind the beach shore breaks mainly predawn and when the evening sun says good night behind the escarpment.
Ganged pillies, chromed metals have been quite successful.
