In the past week Kiama Lions have donated $1000 to the Bushfire appeal and a further $1000 to the LIons Drought Relief Fund.
Our team working at the Kembla Grange Racecourse for the Gong Race reported that it was a great success and we were able to make good money.
This week it will be our last Dinner meeting of the year and it will be our Christmas Party. We are holding it at the Olive and Vine and the Carbaret will be " Tina Turner". So far we have over 80 attendees and the list is still growing. It will be a great way to end what has been a very busy year for us and give us a month's break with our families before a hectic January and February.
Our Driver Reviver set-up will be off and running from December 20 until well into January trying ensure that motorists take a break from their drives to the country and thus reduce accidents.
We will be doing a Bunnings BBQ on Friday, December 20 so we hope to see all those DIY experts and present hunters enjoy one of our famous Santa Snag sizzles.
KIAMA ROTARY CLUB
It's amazing how important it is to believe in what you are doing to produce a successful result. The Rotary Clubs of Gerringong and Kiama have shared responsibility for the conduct of the Kiama Auto Expo raffle for eight consecutive years.
This year the Committee significantly lifted the prize pool value; we also decided to only sell 450 tickets in total and the biggest leap of faith, a charge of $100 per ticket. I'm delighted to tell you it worked; 450 tickets sold, the winners informed, and their prizes presented.
Now we are working on how to help our nominated beneficiaries, the Parkinson's Support Group-Kiama and Parkinson's NSW, and other Rotary projects; there is no shortage of projects.
Last Saturday we presented Sue and Peter Verhoeven with their new car. Peter was telling us that Susan lost her father, Doug, to Parkinson's earlier this year and while she and Peter were shopping at Gerringong Rotary's Markets a few weeks ago they spotted the Parkinson's flag and the ticket sellers with a demonstration model of the MG.
Without Sue knowing, Peter bought a ticket and told her as they were leaving the markets that it was in her name and in memory of her father, Doug. A lot of faith on the part of Rotary and a belief in "karma" by Sue and you have a perfect ending to an inspiring story.
