Delegates will tour Blue Haven Bonaira, and participate in one of the ground-breaking community education sessions run by the Dementia Advisory Group (DAGs), at Matterson Hall.
The DAGs, comprised of residents living with dementia, have been running these free education sessions since 2018.
The sessions are ground-breaking in that they are the first dementia workshops created by people living with dementia, for people living with dementia, and their carers.
The sessions focus on how to provide more effective support and strategies for caring for a person during the different stages of dementia.
The Dementia Australia delegates will visit Kiama Library to inspect its Dementia Resource Centre.
They will also visit SENTRAL Youth Services in Hindmarsh Park, to learn about efforts to spread dementia awareness across all sections of the community.
The Dementia Australia visit will finish with a meeting of researchers, academics, community support workers, health professionals, aged care providers and government representatives from across the Illawarra.
