The councils are hosting events in the morning and into the afternoon on January 26.
In Shellharbour, these include Breakfast By the Lake - a $4 breakfast, from 7-10am, featuring stalls, live music and kids activities.
There will also be a citizenship ceremony, presentation of the Australia Day awards and an address from Australia Day ambassador Joanna Savill.
Mayor Marianne Saliba encouraged people to join in the celebrations.
"The Australia Day Breakfast is a great way for family, friends and members of the community to come together to celebrate our country's cultural diversity and freedoms," she said.
In Kiama, a range of celebrations will be held in different towns:
- Minnamurra Public School: Australia Day awards and citizenship ceremony
- Gerringong, Werri Beach: Breakfast and live music and novelty games
- Jamberoo, Kevin Walsh Oval: Breakfast, live music and lovelty games
- Kiama, Coronation Park: Breakfast
- Kiama Downs, Surf Club - Jones Beach: Breakfast, novelty games, live music
