Megan Hastie this week officially started her new role as Shellharbour Anglican College principal.
Her appointment came after the college's foundation head Tony Cummings ended his 15-year association and retired at the end of 2019.
Mrs Hastie is a "intelligent, creative and experienced" school leader who has held a number of senior positions in her 25-year career to date.
These include deputy principal and acting joint principal (Blue Mountains Grammar School) and head of teaching and learning innovation (St Paul's Grammar School).
Mrs Hastie is knowledgeable and experienced in driving academic performance but sees it as part of a wider picture of supporting the whole child.
"I am excited by the opportunity to lead and serve this community," she said.
"Shellharbour Anglican College is in a strong position to continue growing and blessing the Illawarra, and I look forward to working with the staff, students and families building on such solid foundations."
Tony Cummings recently said "in 2003 my wife Wendy and I stood in an empty paddock that is now Shellharbour Anglican College. After 15 years, we both feel it is time to conclude our period of service at the College."
Established in 2004, Shellharbour Anglican College is a Prep and Kindergarten to Year 12 co-educational independent school offering quality education for children that is financially accessible and responsibly managed.
