Palliative care patients at Port Kembla and David Berry Hospitals' palliative care units will benefit from a nearly $375,000 boost from the NSW Government.
At Port Kembla, a hydraulic bed lift will be installed to enable easier access to a courtyard, while patients' rooms, a bathroom and family room will be refurbished.
A trial of virtual reality headsets to let patients experience the peace of natural outdoor environments will also get underway, as part of the $73,388 upgrade.
At David Berry Hospital, $300,000 will be spent expanding the unit to create more rooms and ensuites, while current wards and bathrooms will be refurbished and re-purposed.
Kiama MP Gareth Ward said the changes would make patients, and carers, more comfortable.
"As a society we need to do as much as we possibly can to improve the care we give and to make the surroundings as homelike as possible.
"The projects will provide privacy and dignity as well as giving more space and a more welcoming environment," he said.
