Some of the initiatives already funded by the Trust include: enhancing cultural fishing grounds; education programs, cultural fishing workshops and improved recreational fishing zones and research. With $500,000 available this year, Aboriginal people, businesses and community groups are encouraged to apply for grants or loans to support fisheries related aspirations.
DPI/Fisheries have only just advised the fund opened back in March but will close on May 19, 2020 - less than three weeks away.

Reminder from Marine Rescue NSW and the duty staff at Port Kembla - Hill 60, to log on when you venture offshore and even out into Lake Illawarra. It is this time of year that the fickle weather can change suddenly and boats can be caught out by surprise.
A simple radio log in of your intended trip and suggested location/s, can be a godsend if things go south. All NSW coastal stations of MRNSW units remain on duty 24/7 and are ready to respond to emergencies.
Enquiries to Hill 60 on 02 4274 4455, Solander Base 02 9668 9888 can assist as required, or better still, join up and become a financial member and assist with routine operations expenses that are ongoing.
