Interest is booming in a views-for-days waterfront home at Clifton, with celebrities and international buyers among the contenders for a sale that is tipped to shatter the sleepy suburb's property price ceiling.

The property, at 347-349 Lawrence Hargrave Drive, is set on two cliff's edge blocks and goes to market with a price guide of $3.7-$4 million.
The downsizing owners are UK expats who lived in Sydney before making the move south more than 10 years ago.
In 2006 they bought adjoining blocks for $960,000 and $965,000, before knocking down a small cottage to make way for their dream home.
They commissioned Sydney architects Saville Isaacs for the design and enlisted structural, hydraulic and geotechnical specialists to meet the challenges posed by building into the unstable cliff edge.
The cantilevered design is the designers' answer to keeping the footings away from the jaw-dropping, eroding edge.
Orientated to face south-east, it is designed so that every room has ocean views.
McGrath Sutherland Shire's Jeremy Hodder and Lashay Borg have fielded almost 100 inquiries since listing the property five days ago, with overseas interest from Hong Kong, Singapore and London and from Sydney buyers on the upper and lower north shore and inner west. With no visible neighbours, the sale has also piqued the interest of some celebrity buyers.
Mr Hodder says interest was unusually high for the price point. He believes more Sydney buyers are casting their eye beyond the city after realising during COVID-19 that they can work from home.
"The level of interest coming out of Sydney shows it [COVID-19] has certainly opened up peoples' minds in terms of how we function and how we work," he said.
"There's always been a focus on indoor/outdoor living, whereas now there's a bit more of a focus on work/home living, how the two can blend together nicely.
"Everyone who has seen [the Clifton home] says it would be a great place to work from."
The home includes a downstairs library and fireplace.
A Clifton home has yet to sell above the $3 million mark.
