Illawarra Stingrays club members were left fuming and looking for a new training ground after offenders used a vehicle to do doughnuts across the field.

The incident is a major setback for the club, with Illawarra players set to return to the field next month.

It's understood the incident occurred on Friday night and Stingrays head coach Bruce Tilt said it was under investigation with police and local council.

"It's a real shame. We're also having a bit of trouble with Centenary Park, our other [training venue], we're being moved off there," he said.

"It's not good for the girls to have uncertainty around their training and it's something that needs to be looked at within Wollongong itself. These girls are the pinnacle of football in NSW, not just Wollongong: the next step is W-League. They should have proper training facilities which are well looked after."
