A double from veteran Michelle Carney guided Illawarra to a 3-1 win over Macarthur Rams in round five of the NSW Women's NPL One season on Sunday. Eden Stoddard also found the back of the net.
It was the Stingrays' first win since Tilt took over as head coach ahead of the 2020 season.
"I'm very happy. Not only about the fact we got the win, but the way we got it. I think that was the best part about it. We went all out attack, went at them and it proved very fruitful," Tilt said.
"The wingers in Chloe [Middleton] and Bronte Trew stood up. We didn't have Caitlin Cooper, we had to leave her out. But the other players stood up which is what it's all about.
"And you can't take away the quality of someone like Michelle Carney with two brilliant sprinting goals early in the game which set us on our way. The team just responded, it could have been any score in the end."
Now, the Rays will look to build momentum when they return to JJ Kelly Park to face Bankstown City this Sunday afternoon.
"Bankstown are not doing as well as they'd like to. We think that we're running into a bit of form and we've got to take that into the game," Tilt said.
"The good thing is we're back on the grass again, which is what we train on. We think that's going to be beneficial to us as well. The players are certainly hyped up, ready to go for it."
