Just after 12pm on Sunday emergency services were called to a location near Killalea Lagoon by State Emergency Service volunteers who had been searching the area.
Ambulance inspector Norman Rees said the SES workers had discovered the body and that it was that of 83-year-old Mr Sovrano, who had been missing since Wednesday.
The SES members had been treated for shock.
Police have been called to the scene and it is believed that, due to the location, the body will be airlifted out by the Polair helicopter.
It is understood Mr Sovrano had walked to the lagoon.
