"The area around here has had a pretty tough time with suicide," founder of the inaugural Berry Motorfair Jordan Tang said. "It strikes a lot of people."
All proceeds from the event at his in-law's Jaspers Brush property will go to Lifeline, while celebrating more than 100 classic and collectible vehicles - with food trucks and live music also in the mix.
For a gold coin donation, car enthusiasts can peruse the likes of a 1920s Rolls Royce, a Ferrari Testarossa, a classic Porsche 356 and a Brabham F1 race car.
Mr Tang will have some of his own collection on show, along with specialties from Southern Classic Cars Wollongong and several classic car clubs.
"I got a haircut [before the Mercury photo shoot] and the hairdresser told me her mum committed suicide three years ago," Mr Tang said.
"It's something that 10 years ago you'd probably be embarrased to say your parents committed suicide, but I think now people are more open about it.
"Mental illness is more and more common ... and I think Lifeline does an amazing job. There's lots of volunteers there answering phones every 30 seconds."
Eight people die by suicide each day in Australia - six of these are men - while mental health conditions are a contributing factor in many cases, according to Beyond Blue.
Meantime, charity work isn't new for Mr Tang who is also the chairman of the annual Amber Affair event, raising money for the Sydney Children's Hospital.
The Berry Motorfair is on November 15, 185 Strongs Roads, Jaspers Brush. Entry is by gold coin donation.
Patrons are asked to be patient, as there may be wait times for entry due to COVID-19 restrictions.
UPDATE: This event has sold out.
