The community can help by participating in the Wollongong Homeless Hub's '12 Weeks of Xmas' hamper campaign.
Mandy Booker, manager of Wollongong Emergency Family Housing and the Wollongong Homeless Hub said the Hub has started its traditional Christmas campaign countdown collection in the lead-up to the festive period.
"This year so many in our community are experiencing tough times," she told the Mercury.
"We are aiming at being able to provide 200 Christmas hampers this year and with the generous community support that is always shown to the Hub, we know with your help we can do it.
"Please join us on Wollongong Homeless Hub Facebook page as we countdown the 12 weeks before Christmas.
"If you have a little or a lot to give this year, every little bit helps bring some much-needed Christmas cheer to those in need."
For instance, in week one of the appeal, the public could donate a $10 Opal card to be included.
Ms Booker said this would help their clients travel to property viewings, appointments and community supports.
There are donation drop-off points available at MP Paul Scully's office in Wollongong or Bendigo Bank.
You can also contact the Homeless Hub to organise pick-up or drop-off times on 4228 0955 or by emailing mandy@wefh.org.au.
