Gwenda Markwell preparing filly for Flemington assault

Won in impressive fashion by Peltzer, the 1000m two-year-old race on April 28 featured a host of talented juveniles.

The Gerald Ryan and Sterling Alexiou colt took out the $1 million Bondi Stakes at Randwick on Saturday, his fifth win from eight starts.

Finishing second to Peltzer in the maiden was Anders, the three-year-old going on to win at Listed and Group 3 level throughout the spring.

Fifth on that occasion was Either Oar, a filly Gwenda Markwell hopes will follow the pair to black-type success.

Initially planning to progress the three-year-old through the grades before an assault on the Sydney autumn, the experienced trainer has fast-tracked her plans.

Markwell will now send Either Oar to Melbourne for the Group 3 1100m Red Roses Stakes on Oaks day at Flemington. Veteran Craig Williams is likely to be in the saddle.

The run back in April was the only time she hasn't placed, the filly winning a maiden and a class one in her last two starts.

The promising talent enjoyed a track gallop at Kembla Grange on Saturday, the filly impressing her trainer in trying conditions.

The effort came as Peltzer was running away from her rivals in driving rain at Randwick Racecourse, the colt dominant in his fourth win from four starts at the Sydney venue.

The three-year-old was second behind Anders in the Group 3 San Domenico before going on to win the Group 2 Stan Fox earlier this month.

Peltzer is set for a stint in the paddock before Ryan and Alexiou begin their preparations for the Sydney autumn.

'He'll go out on Monday," Ryan told Sky Racing. "He'll have a nice spell. He could improve, he could just hold his own. I think he's a horse that will improve.

"He's got a great attitude for a colt, so I just hope he keeps that attitude. He'll come back a nice horse in the autumn. In the autumn there's so much to pick from for three-year-olds. A race like the Stradbroke should be right up his alley.

"We'll just sit back and be patient, we'll just keep placing him like we have been. I think he's going to end up a nice horse."

Peltzer's win in Sydney came on a tough day for the local trainers at Kembla Grange.

Brett Lazzarini was closest to securing a victory, Delileo finishing second behind Shadow Girl in a 2000m class one and maiden plate.

In his first start at the distance, the gelding was held up down the straight and likely would have won with a bit more luck.

The trainer also collected a third-place finish in the last, Canzonet running well in driving rain. Having ridden Shadow Girl to victory, jockey Alysha Collett claimed her second winner on board Ranges.

While disappointed Delileo was unable to finish on top, Lazzarini was pleased with the four-year-old's effort.

"It was a huge run," Lazzarini said. "His first go at 2000m, he got jammed up between two horses and couldn't get a clear run at them.

"The inside horse moved out and the outside horse moved in, it wasn't good. It cost him the race, but that's racing.

"We'll give him a bit of a break and let him mature then bring him back. I only wanted to get him up to 2000m for that one run. He needs the time, he'll come back a lot better horse."
