Horsley Convenience Store manager Vanessa Perez said it was lucky the accident didn't happen 15 minutes later.
"There was no one there luckily. It was a good time of the day. If it happens 15 minutes later it would have been full of kids in here," Miss Perez told the Mercury.
"There was only two of us in the store, and we were both on the other side."
The store manager said the elderly gentleman crashed his car straight through the left front-side of the store just before 2.30pm.
"He is a regular at our store. I spoke to him after the accident and he seemed okay. He said he was trying to press the breaks.
"I'm not sure what happened but I understand police are investigating the accident."
The 86-year-old man was treated at the scene by paramedics.
Miss Perez said she was in shock but was doing okay.
"It was such a loud noise. I had no idea what had happened," she said.
"It kind of took a while to process what had just happened.
"It was loud and it got really smoky. You could just see everything was crushed on that side of the store.
"I'm just thankful no one was seriously injured."
