Badly behaved motorists risk double demerit points over the Australia Day period, with police launching a five-day road safety operation.

Operation Australia Day begins at 12.01am on Friday, January 22 and ends at 11.59pm on Tuesday, January 26.
Police will target unsafe driving and offences will attract double demerit points during the operation.
There will be a large and visible police presence on the state's roads.
"We're asking all drivers to drive to the conditions, concentrate on the road, and be aware of your fatigue levels," Traffic and Highway Patrol Command acting Assistant Commissioner Stephen Hegarty said.
"Don't be tempted by distractions such as your mobile phone as this can lead to tragic consequences and endanger lives."
Already this year 15 people have died on NSW roads - two more than at the same time last year - although the Illawarra has not seen any crashes resulting in deaths or serious injury to date.
Motorists are advised that the state's roads are expected to be very busy over the Australia Day period.
Police will also be on the lookout for other unsavoury behaviour in the community.
"We will continue to target alcohol-related crime and antisocial behaviour throughout the weekend and into early next week," Wollongong Police District Commander, Acting Superintendent Brad Ainsworth, said.
"Australia Day 2021 is a day to reflect, respect and celebrate the Australian spirit so we ask the community to be patient and respect each other and any restrictions in place."
Superintendent Ainsworth reminded residents that police were able to enforce COVID restrictions, and urged people to follow them.
"We do have the power to ensure that the community is adhering to current public health orders, so let's work together to ensure everyone enjoys Australia Day safely," he said.
"We are also expecting hot weather over the next few days, so it's really important that members of the community look out for themselves and one another."
