Blaq Real Estate agent Daniel Gutierrez said there was a high demand for luxury apartments close to the beach and CBD.
All the interest so far for the off-plan three-bedroom apartments at 16 Smith Street, Wollongong, were from locals.
"These apartments, which include three bedrooms with study, wine cellar, two-and-a-half bathrooms and three car spaces, start from $2.2 million," he said.
"Smith Street is popular because it is so close to Belmore Basin. It is also a flat walk to the shops.
"The interest has come from mostly self-funded retirees and successful business people. Quite a few doctors are also looking at these.
"None are from Sydney. We haven't really had to advertise. It is has been all local people driving past seeing it, that are ringing about the apartments."
Mr Gutierrez added it was a very good market.
"People can't seem to get enough," he said. "I have another building in Belmore Street that I haven't really launched yet. I had a soft launch and I've sold eight or nine already.
"The market is good."
