As part of the Fowlers Road bridge project, council wants to widen the highway north of that intersection.
The widening will allow for the construction of a left-turn only lane into Fowlers Road.
According to council papers, the plan is to acquire the nature strips outside three NSW Land and Housing Corporation properties along the highway.
The commission built those houses "on the understanding that the land affected by the road works would be acquired by council at some point in the future", the papers stated.
The acquisition of all three lots will cost $288,200 with the housing corporation already committing to an in-principle acceptance of the offer.
However, council will be able to claim back $26,200 in GST, making the actual cost $262,000.
Wollongong city councillors will decide on the proposal to acquire the land at Monday night's meeting.
