The primary purpose of floating fish aggregating devices is to aggregate pelagic fish, particularly mahi-mahi which frequent the east coast in the warm waters of the East Australian Current over summer and autumn.
The NSW FADs are spread from the Tweed all the way down to Eden and are anchored to the sea floor and consist of a large floating yellow special purpose buoy with a fixed flashing navigation light.
Why not get out there and try your local FAD where you will be able to enjoy the quality fishing to be had on the FADs right through until May when they will be removed for annual winter maintenance.
Use DPI's FishSmart app to find co-ordinates of FADs nearest to you.
It provides a real-time map to locate your nearest FADs (tap on each FAD for its co-ordinates).
