A pedestrian island will be installed, as well as the realignment of the pram ramps.
An extension of the median on Princes Highway and new line marking will also be added.
"Figtree is a growing neighbourhood that is home to a lot of young families, so we want to make sure that getting around is as safe and convenient as possible," a Transport for NSW spokesperson said.
"Part of this project is improving traffic flow but the focus is to make the urban environment safer for pedestrians, especially parents with prams and strollers."
The work will be carried out from March 22 to 26, between 9.30am and 3.30pm.
While road survey work is carried out one lane in each direction will remain open under a stop/slow arrangement and the speed limit reduced to 40km/h.
The southbound kerb-side lane will also be closed while work is underway to realign pram ramps.
Thursday between 7.30pm and 5am will see the intersection closed with detours in place for motorists.
The southbound detour will be via Gibson Road, Amaroo Avenue and Cordeaux Road.
Northbound drivers will detour via Cordeaux Road, Amaroo Avenue and Gibson Road.
Pedestrian access from the eastern side of the Princes Highway will be unavailable from March 24 to 26.
