Dean Michael Tuohy, 25, fronted Wollongong Local Court on Sunday to apply for release following the allegedly violent domestic violence assault in which the woman sustained a burn to her arm, swollen eye and head injuries.
He was charged with assault occasioning actual bodily harm, contravening a restriction in a apprehended domestic violence order and damaging property.
In documents tendered to court, Tuohy, who has been in a relationship with the woman for 12 months, started banging on her Dapto home about 7pm on Saturday after allegedly consuming alcohol.
Upon the woman opening the door, Tuohy allegedly barged into her home and struck his girlfriend three times to the left side of her eye and face with a closed fist.
Alarmingly, after the woman went to drain vegetables from a boiling pot of water on the stove, Tuohy grabbed the pot and allegedly poured it over the woman's right arm, prompting her to immediately run it under cold water.
The violence continued when Tuohy allegedly punched the woman in the back of the head with a closed fist two times before she fell to the ground.
He allegedly continued to punch her three more times before she lost consciousness for a few seconds from the blows.
Tuohy allegedly started dragging his girlfriend throughout the house, continuing to punch and kick her in the back.
Tuohy allegedly punched the walls and threw items around the house during the incident including damaging two televisions, the front doors and shattering a vase.
The alleged violence only stopped when the woman suggested Tuohy have a shower, which he did, giving her the opportunity to run to her neighbour's home where she called police.
Officers arrived a short time later to find the woman with a swollen red and purple cut left eye and her icing her burnt arm.
Police obtained a statement from the woman and took photos of her injuries before she was taken to Wollongong Hospital to be treated for facial and back injuries as well as concussion.
Photos were also taken of the damage to the property.
Tuohy was arrested at the home and taken to be Lake Illawarra Police Station where he was charged.
He was not interviewed due to his aggressive behaviour towards police and level of intoxication.
As part of AVO conditions, Tuohy was prohibited from assaulting and intimidating his partner, destroying her property and he was not allowed to approach her for at least 12 hours after drinking or taking illicit drugs.
In bail court on Sunday, police prosecutor Sergeant Ben Bragger said the case against Tuohy appeared to be strong given the woman told police about the alleged scald and battery to her face soon after it occurred.
"Bail cannot be contemplated given the seriousness of the allegations," he said.
He also added Tuohy would likely face a period of full time imprisonment if he was convicted.
Tuohy's defence lawyer said he was young, had a landscaping job, and limited criminal history.
Registrar Tina McKenna refused to grant Tuohy bail noting the seriousness of the allegations and the strong prosecution case.
The case was adjourned to Tuesday.
