Captain Kurtis Patterson will need to make an aggressive declaration if the Blues are likely to secure an outright win at North Dalton Park, which they require to earn the right to host the 2020/21 Shield final.
The hosts will resume their second innings at 2/49, leading the Bulls by three runs, with Matthew Gilkes (24 not out) and Jason Sangha (0 not out) striding to the crease on Tuesday morning.
Queensland put themselves in a strong position after a dominant display with the bat on Monday. Test number three Marnus Labuschagne was the standout with 112 - his second century at North Dalton Park - as the Bulls scored an imposing total of 433, while off spinner Nathan Lyon finished with six wickets for NSW.
Labuschagne was the second player to post a century this match, after Sangha's 103 guided NSW to a first innings total of 381 on Sunday.
