However, it might also have sparked another special Illawarra Premier League tale.
In a case of first versus 10th, Coniston caused the upset of the season claiming a 3-2 win over Wollongong United, denying the IPL powerhouses a run at the title.
Since, 'Cono' has brought in Rob Jonovski - a man dubbed the "super coach" at Corrimal - and has started their 2021 campaign with a 3-0 run to sit on top of the ladder alongside Wollongong Olympic. While delighted with his team's form so far, Jonovski isn't getting ahead of himself.
"It's a perfect start I guess, three from three, but it means nothing, right? There's still 57 points up for grabs, 19 games left to go," he said.
"The pleasing part for me as a coach is the attitude of the boys, all the pre-season and up until today and moving forward. They've been fantastic and they're working hard. It's a healthy environment for the lads.
"Environments in the dressing room are built from the coaches. They represent me and the coaches on the pitch with attitude, discipline and all of that stuff. I didn't know what was in the dressing room last year so I have to make that environment in two hours, and they have to buy into it. And they have.
''I've got a handful of guys that I've worked with who understand how I work, and the other guys have bought into it. It's not just me, it's the boys creating that environment as well. I'm very pleased about that.
"But there's a long way to go, we've achieved nothing so far. If we make the finals this year, I'll be over the moon."
Coniston started their season with a 3-2 win over the Rangers - where Jonovski helped win the 2019 IPL grand final - before securing 2-1 and 4-0 victories over South Coast United and Woonona respectively.
They chase their fourth successive win when they travel to Terry Reserve to face Albion Park on Sunday. Jonovski's opposite number will be Alvin Ceccoli, Park's new coach who was also part of Corrimal's historic grand final win.
"I'm expecting our toughest test to date," Jonovski said.
"They've got former A-League stars and internationals. On paper, they've got a squad to challenge for the title. We're aware of that and expecting a very, very difficult game. It will be tough."
The action continues on Saturday afternoon with the Macedonian derby between Wollongong United and Cringila at Macedonia Park. The Sharks return to Ocean Park to host South Coast United, Olympic meets Port Kembla at PCYC and the Blueys tackle Bellambi at Tarrawanna Oval.
The round will conclude with the White Eagles hosting Coniston at Terry Reserve on Sunday afternoon.
The Rosellas and Woonona will also back up to play a catch-up game at Elizabeth Park that day.
