The Bureau of Meteorology said westerly winds over NSW in the wake of a cold front were easing but would remain fresh to strong and gusty while the "situation will continue to be monitored and further warnings will be issued if necessary".
Severe winds across the weekend meant Illawarra volunteers with the State Emergency Service (SES) were kept busy from daybreak on Saturday, with calls for help continuing throughout Sunday.
"A large portion of the requests were for damage to properties caused by the high winds dislodging or destabilising fixtures," said Deputy Unit Commander for the Wollongong SES Unit Edward Forbes.
"We did also see a large number of requests for downed trees and branches causing damage or access issues."
Across the four Illawarra SES units 77 requests for assistance had been received since Saturday morning with the majority of incoming requests coming in on Sunday morning and completed before nightfall on Sunday evening.
Calls for assistance ranged from branches and trees down to more complex jobs such as a large radio antenna that snapped in half at Unanderra, and a call for assistance at Wollongong Private Hospital where loose sheet metal roofing and flashing was dangerously flapping in the wind.
Mr Forbes said the most impacted suburbs were Wollongong, Figtree, and Unanderra.
Members of the public requiring assistance from NSW SES should call 132 500. If life threatening call 000.
