Rod Logan, co-convener of the garden, said the Carrington Street garden had attracted close to 80 members and each week more people were joining.
Not only does the garden provide somewhere people can get outside, foster their green thumbs, learn new skills and grow their own food, it gives them the opportunity to meet others in their community.
"We always talked about how the social connection part is as important as the growing," Mr Logan said.
Mr Logan said this social benefit was even more important during this time of COVID restrictions.
Since the garden opened, he said there had been plenty of positive feedback from the wider community.
The official launch in January followed months of preparation that included getting all administrative requirements in order, as well as building the garden beds and getting some plants established.
But the plan was in the works for a few years before that, as Mr Logan and others tried to get a suitable site in order.
