NSW Ambulance Inspector Norm Rees said a 26-year-old Sydney man had lost feeling and movement below his lower back as a result of an accident that happened about 11.30am Saturday.
Inspector Rees said the man had gone over a few moguls on the track but failed to negotiate a bend and hit an embankment, which launched him three to four metres into the air.
It is believed he might have struck a fence before hitting the ground.
The man was stabilised at the scene and was flown to the Royal North Shore Hospital in Sydney, which had a specialised spinal injury unit.
Inspector Rees said the man was conscious and talking at the scene, but "in a lot of pain".
The man also suffered a shoulder injury.
Multiple ambulance units attended the track on Harry Graham Drive.
Paramedics were also called to two other accidents at the track on Saturday, although Inspector Rees said these were not as serious.
Meanwhile, an off-duty police officer has suffered a compound fracture of his lower right leg in a mountain biking accident at Mount Kembla on Saturday afternoon.
A compound fracture occurs when the broken bone pierces the skin.
The 37-year-old man was taken to Wollongong Hospital.
