The road was closed for hours as emergency services waited for the damaged truck to be towed away.
No-one was injured in the incident but police issued the driver with a number of fines.
They were penalised for driving with an expired licence, and for breaching the load mass limits applicable to Bulli Pass.
Having copped a battering in the recent wild weather and been closed for repair, Bulli Pass only reopened to light traffic late on Friday afternoon. Vehicles more than 4.5 tonnes are banned from Bulli Pass and must use Mt Ousley Road.
A Fire and Rescue NSW spokesperson said they were called about 3.30pm, when the cab of the ice-carrying truck caught fire.
Unfortunately, the cargo was not much help in extinguishing the blaze.
