Divisions of surfboat racing are contested including Open Men, Open Women, Reserve Men, Under-23 Male, Under-23 Female, Under-19 Men and Masters, with more than 80 crews making up 350 competitors representing about 20 clubs from across the state, including National Champions Austinmer and Bulli as well as many other Illawarra and South Coast clubs.
The series will be fast and furious over 400-metre races with wet starts and finishes ensuring tight racing with crews determined to start fast through the break to set themselves up for a good finish.
The Navy events act as the local qualifying series for the chance to represent NSW at the Navy ASRL Interstate Championships at Shellharbour in February.
The Australian Surf Rowers League was born in NSW in 1992 as the International League of Australian Surfboat Rowers.
It currently has 3000-plus members from about 260 clubs which make up over 550 crews.
