The mood was quiet and reflective as a crowd gathered at dusk on Anzac Eve for the Vietnam Veteran’s Association Illawarra Sub Branch Anzac Commemoration Service on Friday night.

Held at the Vietnam Veteran’s Memorial at Flagstaff Hill, the Anzac address was delivered by retired Brigadier Philip McNamara CSC ESM who had 35 years in the army where he saw active service in South Vietnam with Second Battalion RAR.
He also served in Papua New Guinea, served with the Special Air Services Regiment and the First Commando Regiment. His last appointment in the army was Commander Special Forces from 1998 – 2001 where he was responsible for Defence Force Counter Terrorist Support to the Sydney Olympics. He is also Chairman of Wollongong Legacy.
