An eight-year-old boy has been killed, two children are in a critical condition and eight people are in hospital after a school bus and a prime mover collided at Singleton in the Hunter Valley this afternoon.

The accident occurred at Church and Kelso streets at 3.50pm today and emergency service crews are still at the scene.
The boy died at the scene and the two children who suffered critical injuries and have now been airlifted by helicopter to John Hunter Hospital for treatment.Another five children were taken by ambulance to Singleton Base Hospital with minor injuries including back and neck pain.
The male bus driver, 50, was treated for cuts to the head and the 27-year-old male truck driver suffered cuts to the face.
Both were also taken to Singleton Base Hospital in a stable condition.
The mother of one of the children also had to be treated for shock by paramedics at the scene and has been taken to hospital for further treatment.
Police from Central Hunter, Traffic and Highway patrol and Hunter Valley have been called to deal with traffic.
