The speaker is the founder and president of Supporting and Linking Tradeswomen (SALT), Fi Shewring.
SCWIB was founded by Maxine Wiseman, of Woonona, in 2014 to help women working in the local building, construction and allied trades.
The group generally runs a series of bi-monthly breakfast forums and Ms Wiseman said it would be great to get an insight into women working in non-traditional trades that are generally provided through SALT workshops and regional development initiatives.
"Any women that are interested in this field will be extremely enlightened by this event," she said.
"Fi is the president and founder of SALT, a not-for-profit organisation providing support and encouragement for women who want to get into non-traditional trades and for those that are.
"Fi also teaches painting and decorating at the Illawarra Institute TAFE NSW. She has been included on the Who's Who of Women list, both nationally and internationally, and has won numerous awards, including the regional category of the 100 Women of Influence National Award in 2012."
Ms Wiseman herself has more than 25 years' experience in the construction industry.
She used to own a design and construction business in residential building.
When she moved to the Illawarra she saw a need for a group like SCWIB. Every two months forums are held at different locations and times to encourage women in the construction industry.
This Friday's meeting starts at 7.30am and costs $15. Registrations can be emailed to maxine @scwib.com.au or call 4244 0130.
