Farrell burst on the scene with a hat-trick on debut for South Sydney in 2010 before encountering the frequent injuries that have plagued his career.
Tearing both his left and right pectoral muscles and a serious back injury have kept him to just 19 games in two seasons at the Dragons and he’s yet resume any training with the squad for 2016.
Farrell admitted the seriousness of his back problem but said rumours of his retirement are premature.
“The [retirement] rumours are all there but nothing’s official,” Farrell said.
“The club’s being really good to me at the moment.
“ I’m not training with the team yet but still hopeful to be back. It’s a pretty severe injury and I have to have a lot of rest.
“I’m still pretty young so I’ve still got some time to let it heal so there’s nothing official [on retirement].”
