Load tests on the 100 foot long bridge supported on six steel columns filled with concrete, were reported as having taken place on May 30, 1893.
Deflection on the two central spans was one tenth of an inch (2.5mm) and on the footpath spans, one four hundredth of an inch (0.064mm).
However, tests have not been carried out on upwards deflections caused, by a removal van seen in the photograph above and others, attempting unsuccessfully to drive beneath the structure.
