The IRT board of directors has appointed Patrick Reid to the position of IRT Group CEO.
IRT Group chief executive Nieves Murray resigned from the Illawarra-based aged care service provider last October.
Mr Reid has been performing the role of Interim IRT Group CEO since October.
Mr Reid, formerly from Canberra, has been a non-executive director of IRT Group since February 2017.
Mr Reid was most recently director of Aged Care, Community and Disability with StewartBrown Chartered Accountants.
Prior to his last two years with StewartBrown, he was the immediate past CEO of Leading Age Services Australia (LASA), the peak body for aged care providers.
Mr Reid was a long-term member of the federal government’s Aged Care Sector Committee, a former chairman of the government’s Aged Care Workforce Advisory Group and was a member of the ACT Ministerial Advisory Council on Ageing.
Mr Reid is a partner of the Capital Chemist Group and has held senior board roles with the Pharmacy Guild and the Pharmaceutical Society of Australia.
Mr Reid said a key focus would be the IRT Foundation’s work with the homeless and people at risk of homelessness, “to make sure we’re doing our part for the community around those issues”.
“Aged care is a growth area with lots of challenges there, but from the foundation’s perspective, it’s expanding the work we’re already doing,” he said.
“And really integrating homelessness and people at risk of homelessness, to bring them into a community to reintegrate them meaningfully.
“But also to make sure those systems are sustainable. That’s a challenge where we don’t want to be too reliant on ongoing funding, or funding that might be at risk.
“So (it’s) making sure we can build a sustainable system for people at risk of homelessness.
“IRT is a great community organisation, and for me and the team I also think the important thing is to continue the work that we do with aged care, particularly with our customers, clients and residents.”
IRT Group chair Michael Halloran said Mr Reid is “a respected leader in our sector and has very strong relationships with industry and government stakeholders”.
