The good news continued for the Warrawong school on Monday when Parliamentary Secretary for Education, Gareth Ward dropped by to present it $30,000 under the NSW Government’s Before and After School Care Fund.
“This $30,000 funding will provide a terrific opportunity for St Francis of Assisi to expand their outstanding educational services,” Mr Ward said.
Centacare coordinator Julianne Chaplain said the before and after school care service would run five days a week inside the school hall.
“We have a range of activities and have even agreed to parents’ requests to help students with their homework,” she said.
“In the mornings we provide breakfast and snacks and afternoon tea in the afternoon.
“If all goes well we hope to offer a vacation care service down the track.”
St Francis of Assisi principal Marg Foldes said the new service was ideal as there were a lot of working families in the community who required before and after school care.
“We haven’t got a lot of students attending at this time but I’m sure it’s just a matter of time before the numbers improve,” she said.
“It’s a needs-based service which is another positive.”
