The tiny town of Wyee, near Lake Macquarie, has a population of 2406 according to the 2016 Census.
By contrast Unanderra’s population is 5434 people.
The station in both suburbs has an island platform accessible only by stairs.

And both are a similar distance away from the closest wheelchair accessible station.
Both will require three lifts as part of any upgrade.
Yet it’s Wyee and not Unanderra that will see money for those lifts in the state budget.

Transport for NSW was contacted for comment about Wyee station but failed to respond to deadline.
Late on Monday TfNSW responded to Mercury questions about whether Unanderra would have to wait at least another 12 months for an upgrade.
“Customers at Unanderra station can be assured that Unanderra station will continue to be considered as part of the Transport Access Program prioritisation process for future planning.”
