The Corrimal resident didn’t take much notice but when he heard a “bigger pop, an explosion”, he rushed to the front window of his Pioneer Road home.
“The whole park was lit up, it was like day time outside,” Mr Clarke said.
“I quickly got on the phone and called triple-zero. I think it was about 4.50am.”
Mr Clarke said the explosion which alerted him sounded like a gas bottle exploding.
“It wasn’t huge or anything but enough to startle me,” he said.
“I looked out the window and saw the fire. It was only after I ran outside that I noticed that it was at the [Corrimal HS] school.
“It went up really quickly. The flames were much higher than the buildings. It was terrible.”
Mr Clarke didn’t see anyone but said the sheep near the school were “going off all night”.
