Two women boarded the city-bound train at Thirroul just before 10 am on October 20 before a man also boarded and sat near them.
Police believe the man exposed himself and committed an act of indecency in view of the women, who then notified a train guard at Wolli Creek.
The guard approached the man before he left the train.
The incident was reported to officers from the Police Transport and Public Safety Command.
Investigators have now released CCTV images of a man who may be able to assist with their inquiries.
The man depicted as being of Caucasian appearance, of a medium to large build, and aged in his late-20s.
He is seen wearing a black long-sleeved jumper and grey shorts. The man has numerous tattoos including the word “baker” on his right leg.
Police are urging anyone with information, or anyone who knows the identity of the man to come forward.
Anyone with information about this incident is urged to contact Crime Stoppers: 1800 333 000 or via https://nsw.crimestoppers.com.au. Information is treated in strict confidence.
