Murphy is a South Coast-based world champion and Commonwealth Games gold medallist and partnered Windang’s Steve Sprod to a 24-11 victory over Moran and 2018 NSW Pairs champion Matt Miles in the decider.
“This has given a boost to bowls in the region, particularly for women players,’’ said Murphy.
“Having a few high-profile players like Kay and myself be able to play here is great for the sport. I don’t have a lot of free time in my schedule but I’m glad I’ve fitted it in.
“I’d like to see a women’s singles event as part of the carnival, but this is a really good innovation.’’

Moran is the Oak Flats bowls coordinator and said local female bowlers now had a significant event they could play with their husband, partner or friend.
“There’s been such a positive response,’’ Moran said.
“Now men and women can play alongside each other I’m sure more women will take up the opportunity.’’
The Combination Pairs featured 48 teams in 12 sections played over the last three days of the carnival.
