Officers from the city’s police transport command issued a 25-year-old man with a move-on direction in the shopping precinct about 10.45am.
The man left the area, but returned less than an hour later.
About 11.10am, two male senior constables from Wollongong police were conducting patrols of the area when they noticed the same man in the precinct, allegedly acting aggressively toward security guards.
Police will allege the man became aggressive towards the officers, before one was headbutted and one was punched in the face multiple times.
OC spray was deployed by police before the Wollongong man was arrested.
The senior constables, aged 27 and 33, received minor injuries to their face, arms, and legs, and were treated at Wollongong police station by NSW Ambulance paramedics.
The 25-year-old man was taken to Wollongong police station, where he was charged with destroying or damaging property, continue intoxicated behaviour after move-on direction, two counts of assaulting a police officer in execution of duty, and two counts of resisting or hindering a police officer in the execution of duty.
He was refused bail to appear at Wollongong Local Court on Tuesday.
