However, a ground search is still under way in the area around the Wattamolla lagoon.
7.05pm: The NSW Ambulance rescue helicopter has left Wattamolla.
However, the Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter remains in the area and is searching the Wattamolla creek and lagoon.
6.45pm: A search is under way for a swimmer missing in the Royal National Park north of Wollongong.
The Westpac Life Saver Rescue Helicopter and a NSW Ambulance rescue helicopter are searching the area around the Wattamolla lagoon on Tuesday evening.
Initial reports suggest a young man has gone missing in the lagoon.
Police are also on the scene.
