The high-visibility blitz, dubbed Operation Impact, saw Wollongong cops and out-of-area officers hit the city's streets in large numbers on Friday night.
About a dozen police motorbikes and 10 cars from Sydney were among the additional resources involved in the blitz, which focused on crime hotspots and areas of community complaints.
The motorbike cops did numerous patrols of the CBD.
Hundreds of breath and drug tests were also done.
"There were some good results," highway patrol Sergeant Darren Moulds said.
Sergeant Moulds said similar operations would continue in the future and warned it was "only a matter of time" before drunk and drugged drivers were caught.
