Earlier this month, Mission Australia and Family and Community Services (FACS) hosted the inaugural Bundaleer Saltwater Festival at Howard Fowles Park, Warrawong,
Residents living at the Bundaleer social housing estate were invited to attend the free festival.
They were treated to a barbecue provided by the Koori Men's Group, an art exhibition including works from emerging indigenous artists and Coomaditchie Aboriginal Corporation, a photo booth, live music and amusement rides.
Organisers reported there were more than 500 people from the Bundaleer community and surrounding area in attendance.
Visitors to the festival also had access to information stalls of more than 20 local community and government organisations.
These included Mission Australia, Barnardos, FACS, Warrawong Community Centre, Illawarra Aboriginal Corporation, Illawarra Aboriginal Medical Service, Wellways, Anglicare and CatholicCare.
The festival was organised via a partnership between residents, Mission Australia, FACS, Barnardos, Warrawong Community Centre, Beyond Empathy and Wollongong City Council.
They will be aiming to make it an annual event.
