At 12.17am on Tuesday several Triple-0 calls were received from members of the public in relation to a Toyota Utility driving south along the M1 Pacific Motorway towards Sydney.
People reported the vehicle was driving dangerously, drifting across all three lanes at times and had its hazard lights activated.
Upon approach to the RMS heavy vehicle inspection station at Mt White, truck drivers created a rolling road block and directed the vehicle to enter the weighbridge where other motorists managed to get the driver to stop.
Members of the public held the driver, a 31-year-old man from the Central Coast, until the arrival of emergency services.
Police said the man appeared intoxicated and he failed a roadside breath test. They will allege in court that he admitted to consuming a number of schooners of beer at a local club and a number of spirits the previous evening.
Police said the man was taken to Gosford Police Station where at 1.35am he submitted to a breath analysis, which gave a reading of .208. His unrestricted licence was seized and suspended by police.
He was given bail and not to occupy the seat of a motor vehicle and will appear before Gosford Local Court on June 19.
