According to police, a 51-year-old man was participating in a social ride at the Wollongong Motorcycle Club's motocross track, off Harry Graham Drive, when he struck a tree about 10.30am on Sunday.
"Despite efforts at the scene, the male was unable to be revived," a NSW Police spokeswoman said.
A crime scene has been set up at the track and is being examined by forensic specialists.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
The track has been closed for the remainder of Sunday, a post on the Wollongong Motorcycle Club's Facebook page said.
The Mercury has been told the club will make a statement regarding the incident on Monday.
