The Bureau of Meteorology said a series of cold fronts will bring cool, windy conditions to much of the state, with wind chill expected to make it feel even colder.
Daytime temperatures for much of the region have been in the low 20s over the past week, but the mercury is expected to drop to 14 degrees on Sunday.
Overnight temperatures are expected to drop as low as six degrees on Sunday and into next week.
The cold snap will hit the Southern Highlands particularly hard with temperatures expected to dip below zero degrees on Monday and Tuesday next week.
Meteorologist Craig Ryan from the Bureau of Meteorology said cold conditions were expected to continue for the rest of the week.
"There'll be a series of cold fronts making their way across the ACT and NSW from [Thursday], bringing a lot cooler air from Victoria and parts of the Southern Ocean," Mr Ryan said.
Cold temperatures, showers and westerly winds are expected during Thursday causing a sheep graziers alert for South East NSW because of the risk of losses of lambs and sheep exposed to the conditions.
