Illawarra-based Dignam Real Estate's community initiative 'Community Before Commission' has announced the recipients who will share in the $20,000 worth of funding.
Illawarra residents were encouraged to nominate themselves or someone they know that is experiencing difficult circumstances, including illness, injury or an unfortunate event.
A total of nine candidates were selected from a pool of applications.
The selected successful applicants have experienced a range of hardships, including existing medical and physical conditions, instances of domestic violence and other trauma.
The grant is funded by donations from Dignam Real Estate's commissions.
The decision of who was selected to receive a share of the funding was made by an independent panel of community members.
These included celebrity chef James Reeson, community nurse Kirsten Immens, positive psychology coach Jodie Cooper and Illawarra Hawks legend Glen Saville.
Director of Dignam Real Estate and founder of Community Before Commission Adam McMahon said he was pleased that the initiative has made a positive impact in the lives of families and individuals in the community, whether it be a little or substantially.
"I am very pleased with the feedback we received following the initiative's inaugural year," he said.
"This initiative has brought about a new sense of giving and gratitude."
