Emerging talent set to shine in South Coast Blaze Under 23 campaign

Tweddle's team will play a key link between junior netball and opens competition, with the experienced coach hoping to develop her players into elite adults.

She will also, however, have a key focus on winning games, the side aiming to feature in the hunt for a finals berth.

"The under 23s are the future of the Blaze," Tweddle said. "It's really important we have a strong under 23s program. That's the reason we have so many training partners, so we can focus on that development.

"We'll be competitive on the court. Considering we're a first-year franchise, that's what you aim to be. Quite often you start a franchise and not be competitive, we'll be competitive.

"I'll make sure we're concentrating on week by week efforts, keeping the girls down to earth and if we achieve a finals berth, it will be a great achievement."

The inaugural South Coast Blaze under 23s side was named on Monday, selectors picking a mix of youth and experience.

A wider squad has been training since November and Tweddle has been excited by what she has seen both on and off the netball court.

"I've been very impressed by this squad. We've got some new blood who are new to Premier League, but also some very talented and experienced players.

"It should be an interesting year. We have a saying 'creating history, making memories', that will be our focus this year."
