Fire and Rescue NSW were called to the Shearwater Boulevard home at Albion Park Rail at midnight on Wednesday after receiving Triple 0 calls about the blaze.
When fire crews arrived they found the two-car garage alight with flames spreading to the rest of the home.
Two residents had run from the home and were uninjured.
Fire crews managed to put out the blaze before it destroyed the entire house, though the premises has been substantially damaged.
The cause of the fire is being investigated but at this stage there are no suspicious circumstances.
On the night of March 12, 1996, De Gruchy bludgeoned his mother Jennifer, sister Sarah and brother Adrian to death in the house.
Jennifer and Sarah were in their beds while Adrian was murdered in the garage.

De Gruchy would "discover" their bodies the next day after having spent the night at his girlfriend's house.
He would say he arrived at his girlfriend's home at 11.30pm; police would later determine the victims were murdered before then.
The case against De Gruchy grew stronger with a discovery of a sports bag and backpack near his girlfriend's home that contained missing items from the house that De Gruchy said had been stolen.
There was also a note that read like a checklist to commit murder - "cut somewhere with knife", "hit arm with pole" "have shower" "Sarah, mum, Adrian" and "head butt bench".
A jury would find him guilty of the murders in October 1998. He would be sentenced to 28 years in jail.
He was paroled in August last year, having served 23 years in jail.
