Operation Stay Alert began at midnight on Friday and concluded at 11.59pm on Monday.
During the high-visibility operation, officers targeted speeding, drink and drug driving, driving while fatigued, mobile phone, helmet and other traffic offences.
Across Wollongong and Lake Illawarra police districts, there were 3136 random breath tests conducted, 197 drivers caught speeding, three people caught using their phone, seven people fined for not wearing their seatbelts and 174 fines were issues for other offences.
Traffic and Highway Patrol Commander, Assistant Commissioner Michael Corboy, praised the work of responding officers.
"While the rest of the state abides by the road rules, some drivers have put other road users, including police officers, at risk with their recklessness," Assistant Commissioner Corboy said.
"Operation Stay Alert has since concluded but rest assured - we will continue to have our officers proactively patrolling the streets to take the appropriate action against those who drive dangerously."
